Production of Citric Acid From Citrus Fruit Wastes by Local Isolate and MTCC 281 Aspergillus niger Strains

摘要

In the present study locally isolated A. niger and A. niger MTCC 281 strains were employed for the production of citric acid from the citrus fruit wastes which are easily available raw materials . A total of four substrates sweet lime pulp, orange pulp, sweet lime peels and orange peels were selected. The citric acid production is carried out by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SiSSF). This process of fermentation was carried for a period of eight days at 30C. Fermentation process was carried out by two types of inoculums i.e. A. niger spores and A. niger mycelium in separate flasks and compared the products of Citric acid. The samples were collected for every 48 hours and processed for the estimation of citric acid and sugars. The amount of citric acid produced was estimated spectrophotometrically by pyridine acetic anhydride method and sugars by DNS method. Highest yield was observed with the intact mycelium than the spores and peels were found to be more suitable than pulp.
