Teaching is a noble profession and a teacher plays an important role in society. In this modern world, we have well deviated from the Gurukul system of Indian teaching-learning process in educating our young mass. In order to cope with the rapid developments in the technological world and the education system, a technical teacher has to understand the system as a whole to play a pivotal role. In this paper, we present the attributes, characteristics and duties of a teacher for successful career in technical education, who takes up the profession by virtue of his/her interest not by compulsion. In addition, some suggestions have been highlighted to improve the working condition for a teacher in technical institutes.
