Effect of planting date on yield of spring canola ( Brassica napus L.) genotypes

Delayed planting, unfavorable weather conditions during flowering period, fertilization and pod formation cancause a decrease in duration of maturity period, the number of pods per plant, the number and weight of grains,and finally can lead to decrease in grain yield. Changing the planting date could be an effective variable on grainyield, and manage canola production. Therefore, this research split plot experiment based RandomizedComplete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications was conducted during 2005-2006 growing season. Fourplanting dates (November 6th and 21st. December 6th and 21st) in main plots and four genotypes (Hyola401,PP401, RGS003 and Option500) were studied in subplots. According to analysis of variance results, grain yield,yield components and biological yield were significantly affected by planting date. First planting date (November6th) was more effective according to the studied traits. Genotypes also showed a significant difference for grainyield, yield components and other traits. The highest grain yield was found in Hyola401 hybrid (2.61 ton.ha-1)and the lowest grain yield obtained from at Option 500 cultivar (1.51 ton.ha-1). The first planting date andHyola401 hybrid, showed the best interaction results because of higher seed yield, yield components and totaldry matter.
