Interrelationship between yield and yield related traits of spring genotypes of canola (Brassica napus L.)

A research was conducted to determine the traits related to canola seed yield which are most effective and can be applied as selection indices. Number of 42 spring canola genotypes were chosen and their phonological traits i.e. plant height, number ofseeds per pod, number of pods per plant, weight of 1000 seed, seed and oil yield, seed oil content and the correlation of these traits with seed yield was evaluated. The results obtained showed that the maximum correlation (r=0.99**) was observed for seed and oil yield, after which the correlation between seed yield and number of pods per plant (r=0.75**) and between seed yield and number of seed per pod (r=0.43**) were significant at 0.01 level. The recognition of the direct and indirect effects of the studied traits on seed yield was conducted following path analysis technique. The results indicated that number of pod per plant (r=0.58**) and number of seeds per pod (r=0.43**) showed the maximum direct and positive effect on seed yield.
