Unilateral variation of extensor carpi radialis longus muscle: a case report

摘要

Morphological variations of muscles in the extensor compartment of forearm have been reported by several authors. Those i nclude presence of additional bellies with tendons of existing muscles or presence of addition al mu scle in unusual locat ion. One such variation was observed during routine dissection in the department of An atomy, R. G. Kar Medical College, Kol kata, showing additional extensor carpi radialis longus muscle with separate tendon on ri ght forearm of an approximately 70-year-old female cadaver. No such variation was observed on the left side. Reviewi ng related literature, an atomical knowledge of such possible variation can be considered cl inical ly noteworthy both duri ng preoperati ve diagnosis and also for proper plann ing of reconstructive hand surgery
