The confrontation of family agriculture with competitive markets poses the problem of the competitiveness and questions about its future. Product marketing makes up one of the major concerns of producers and their representatives. Differentiation by quality, like the French terrain, is presented as an opportunity. This article attempts to characterize and analyze a situation that takes place in a particularly favoured area, Santa Catalina (Brazil), given that diverse local initiatives try to mitigate the embryonic institutional processes, which they have contributed to pushing forward. These attempts still remain uncertain and confined to local markets given that they are practically not developed and are based on the legal requirement for certification.
