The literature review is an essential for building scientific knowledge step. Through this process it is possible to find gaps and opportunities for further research. After all, the publications represent the materialization of scientific knowledge in various fields of knowledge. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the evidence of the influence of packaging on consumer behavior present in the scientific production of food using a systematic literature review. For this, 49 articles were selected from different areas of knowledge through systematic in Web of Science, JSTOR, and Scopus databases procedures. This research was carried out not only with the objective of analyzing studies considering direct influence of packaging, but also literature in which even packaging was not part of their objectives, it appeared in their results as a determining factor for food consumption. Therefore, the production was grouped as: i) packaging as an object of study - 24 articles; and, ii) packaging cited in search results - 25 articles. In each case, categories and subcategories were created through content analysis. Main results indicate an increasing number of publications that highlight the influence of packaging on consumer behavior, and to suggest that research into this topic has focused on several themes, objects of study and areas of knowledge, including aspects of packaging and label design visual and informational aspects (mainly geographic information, nutritional origin and on sustainable production) and size that attract customers, strengthen brands and influence the marketing strategies, the consumption of foods, both healthy and conscious production and consumption in excessive and impulsive. Finally, it is noteworthy that despite this, targeted publications for the purpose of identifying what characteristics of packaging and how these affect behavior of consumers of food are scarce.
