Maize has traditionally been grown worldwide as a primarycrop during the summer to provide grain for bothhuman and animal nutrition. In temperate regions, noother crop is grown after the maize harvest in the fall, but insome tropical or subtropical regions of the world maize can begrown throughout the entire season with minimal limitation,and be a secondary crop within a cropping system.
