Intraventricular Tissue Plasminogen Activator Toxicity

1 This well-designed case-control study evaluated the effect of intraventricular tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage requiring ventriculostomy. The authors showed that tPA use results significantly in less vasospasm, fewer angioplasty, and fewer cerebrospinal fluid shunting procedures. However, there was no difference in terms of clinical outcome, with approximately identical modified Rankin scores in the tPA and control groups.Such results immediately reminded us of those published by Ducruet et al.
