US Foreign and National Security Policies: An Explanation Based on Theoretical Approaches

Since Arnold·Wolfers's article "National Security as an Ambiguous Symbol" was published in 1952, security studies have become a very important research issue within the field of international relations. Generally speaking, the formulation of a national security policy includes three aspects: identification of the goals and interests of the country; the determination of any threats to those interests and goals; and the design of the proper responses to those threats. To analyze correctly the threats to national security is an important task of policy-makers and experts engaged in security issues.
