Just over a year since its formation, the Defence Support Group (DSG) is, in the words of Chief Executive Archie Hughes, "behaving like a new business but performing like a business that's been around for a long time". The Defence Industrial Strategy (DIS) of 2005 identified the need to retain the onshore capacity for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of equipment within the UK. The subsequent merger of the Defence Aviation Repair Agency (DARA) and the Army Base Repair Organisation (ABRO) resulted in the creation of DSG in April 2008.
