Cutting to the core

The MoD is currently changing the nature of its relationship with its ICT network providers, following the recommendations of the government's ICT strategy. Under the present programme, five enabling networks including the Defence Fixed Telecommunications System (DFTS), Defence Electronic Commerce Service (DECS), Defence Information Infrastructure (DII), Defence High Frequency Communications Service (DHFCS) and Skynet 5, each operate under a separate contract. From 2015, a new acquisition approach will be introduced known as the Defence Core Network Services (DCNS), which is being led by the Information Systems & Services Group (ISS) of DE&S. DM/ contacted DE&S ISS to gain some insight into the implications of the changes that DCNS will bring.
