It isn't very often that the contributors of DM} speak with one voice, but as you read this edition you will find that A|D|S Chairman Ian Godden's foreword sets the overall tone. His concern about an apparent lack of coherent long-term planning at the heart of UK defence is matched by fears raised in four other articles by senior figures across the three domains, as well as from the aerospace industry and maritime R&T. In addition to the misgivings expressed, there is also a degree of questioning as to why long term' in certain quarters has come to mean 30 months, not 15 years.
