Perimeter protection is a crucial task that the armed forces of all nations have to address. The best approach is to use a combination of different systems, with the installation of camera systems being among the most widely adopted. In general, camera systems can be divided into two categories - stationary and mobile. Althoiigh there have been considerable advances in both, the mobile camera system is arguably the most apt option for military use, where the perimeter very often has a variable disposition. Early models of mobile systems were mainly equipped with daylight cameras and IR cameras, and were supplied with laser range finders and other components such as a digital magnetic compass and GPS receiver. Depending on the sensor type used, equipment was divided into systems with short, medium and long radii. These systems were used mainly in isolation, and today the data processing methods would be considered primitive. They were somewhat basic types of alarm that responded to different types of motion and dynamic changes.
