When the US Army commenced operations in Afghanistan in 2001, few casual observers would have predicted a decade later that the aircraft regularly maintaining the highest operational tempo would be the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior. In continuous use by the US Army since 1969 - in spite of two well-publicised failed efforts to replace it - the OH-58 has now racked up more than 750,000 fleet combat hours, with the highest readiness rate of any US Army helicopter operating in Afghanistan and Iraq.
