French Dance in Eighteenth-Century Spain

Like other nations under the influence of Louis XIV, Spain in 1700 experienced a French cultural invasion, in this case stimulated by a change in royal dynasty. One element of this invasion was the appearance of French dance, first at court and then in cities and towns. By the middle of the eighteenth century, versions of French dance manuals had been published in Spain containing translations of texts by Pierre Rameau, Raoul Auger Feuillet, and Sieur de La Cuisse, while still alluding to the Spanish dance.
