Schwaben invests in cheese and yogurt

The co-operative Milchwerke Schwaben is one of the many smaller processors in Germany currently investing heavily in cheese. Despite increasing production costs all round, this milk product has brought big gains to just about every continental manufacturer in recent years. With 2012 results showing a 2% rise in turnover to €191 million, the directors of the 335 m kg/year Milchwerk Schwaben have announced the completion of a new cheese plant with daily production capacity of around 90 tonnes. This just about doubles capacity for the Neu-Ulm based Bavarian dairy, which produces own versions of Gouda and Edam - but also a "traditional recipe" Emmental-type lactose-free Danube valley slicing cheese.
