摘要

Derived from the Greek word kosmopolites, meaning 'citizen of the world', cosmopolitanism denotes a wide and wavering array of thought. Perhaps the central and shared tenet of disparate strands of cosmopolitan thought is that all human beings, regardless of affiliation, do or can belong to a single community which should be cultivated. Debates over how this might occur, discourses over the challenges of fashioning a cosmopolitan imagination, and critiques of the concept's moral and political instantiation have fed too many academic and public debates to adequately footnote here.
