The Great Lakes Section met Oct. 17, in a joint meeting with the American Institute of Constructors (AIC). The meeting was at the Radisson Hotel and included a 6 p.m. social period, followed by the dinner and a program. Dan O. Fahrer, of DTE Energy, was the guest speaker. Mis topic was, "Technology Selection, Critical Understanding Proceeding Definitive Engineering." He presented the necessary steps required by a utility to sort through the viable environmental controls technology, ensure the utility design basis of the operational units is well defined and any-unique site characteristics are clearly called out. Following that he discussed the activities and controls surrounding the development and execution of the definitive engineering process.
