The Chicago Midwest Section met on Feb. 12, at the offices of Neal & Leroy for its monthly lunch meeting. The meeting featured a presentation by attorney James McConnell of Neal & Leroy. Mr. McConnell's presentation focused on the expected impact of the government's stimulus package on the construction industry. Specifically, Mr. McConnell discussed how the projected $145.6 billion the government is planning on spending on construction projects would be allocated to the various sectors of the construction industry. Mr. McConnell indicated that US federal agencies are projected to receive $56.5 billion, with the largest recipient being US defense construction projects at $15.6 billion. State and local agencies are projected to receive $56.3 billion, with the majority of the funding going to highway/infrastructure projects ($32.6 billion). Lastly, power and energy is projected to receive $32.8 billion, of which $11.8 billion is projected to be allocated to power grid construction projects.
