A taped phone call is no evidence

Everyone is concerned about what will happen in the industry over the next 12 months as money becomes harder to come by and payments slow down. Disputes will inevitably become more frequent. I was recently asked by a contractor whether he could rely on a telephone conversation he had taped with a subcontractor as evidence. The contractor said the conversation was highly relevant, because the subcontractor had admitted his account was massively inflated and without substance (but he would, for an early settlement, take a lesser figure). Would the telephone conversation be admissible in the contractor's defence in adjudication proceedings?
