The college was schemed as a post-tensioned flat slab for reasons of economy and performance. Using significantly less material in terms of rebar and concrete than an RC slab, it also benefits from superior deflection control.rnThis was important because the spans were quite long at around 9-10 m, and the loadings were unusually high at 6.5 kN/sq m live load, 1.4 kN/sq m superimposed dead load, with internal partition loads of 12.8 kN/m run.
