Four firms are in contention for the multi-million pound road surfacing subcontract on the £6.2 billion M25 widening project. rnTarmac, Lafarge, Bardon Contracting - a subsidiary of Aggregate Industries - and Hanson are all understood to be in the running to win one of the largest contracts up for grabs on the project. rnIt also emerged that negotiations over this and other large subcontracts began up to a year ago, when the Connect Plus consortium became the preferred bidder for the main contract. rnA source said of the initial negotiations: "It was all done a year ago, before the main contractor had been appointed. The larger [subcontracts] were undertaken during the tender period."
