This autumn, when the pupils of Whitmore School work up a sweat in their new fitness suites, they'll be doing so in a gym where the air conditioning will have minimal impact on the environment.rnThis is because rather than use conventional air conditioning to dump the gym's waste heat into the atmosphere, heat from the pupil's exertions will be transferred via a heat pump into a series of boreholes sunk deep into the school's car park where it will remain until the suite's air conditioning system can make use of it.
