Private sector urged to reform pay

Subcontractors will this week write to more than 50 of the largest private sector construction clients in a bid to persuade them to replicate recent public sector payment reform. The Specialist Engineering Contractors Group wants to embed fair payment policies in the private sector in the wake of government action on the issue. Chief executive Rudi Klein will send a letter to major private clients explaining the principles of project bank accounts and urging their use. The move comes a week after the Cabinet Office published the widely hailed Government Construction Strategy.Among a range of procurement and delivery models, the strategy seeks to mandate fair payment practices.
