Outrigger load warning for large but light lifts

Crane operators should increase the outrigger loads by 20 to 30 per cent when lifting large but light items to allow for wind loading, according to Construction Plant-hire Association technical consultant Tim Watson. He told a recent meeting of the CPA's Crane Interest Group that such problems can arise when lifting any light loads with a high wind area, including shutters, formwork, cladding panels, temporary accommodation units and wind turbine components.
