We need a new focus on embodied carbon in construction

Levels of embodied carbon are not being considered as much as they should be within the construction industry - particularly in comparison with operational carbon emissions. Our latest research shows that the embodied carbon of building a new house in the UK is equivalent to more than 20 years of operational carbon emissions. This figure excludes household appliances, in line with the latest EU calculation standards, which is a separate embodied vs operational carbon issue due to the high embodied carbon of electronic appliances.
