Several sectors in Scotland have recovered from weak starts in 2013 to record improved planning approvals in the four months from April to July. Education has already eclipsed 2012's total pipeline as funding brought forward by the Scottish government materialises. Offices is on course to match last year's figure, although 2012 was weak for the sector in Scotland, while retail is soaring towards its highest annual approval total since the onset of recession. Private housing continues to struggle, though this is largely due to an exceptional 2012.
