War for talent holds the key for industry's 'Fortunate 50'

Results from the latest CN100 focus on performance highlight how rapid growth in activity over the past year has transformed the finances of many UK contractors. More than half of the businesses featured in the survey - a group that could be described as the 'Fortunate 50' - have seen their turnover increase by more than 10 per cent. Businesses such as Kier have benefited from diversification through M&A, while others including Lakehouse and Brookfield Multiplex have clearly targeted growth as the cycle accelerates. The Fortunate 50 account for £27.8bn of turnover, up 26 per cent in the year, which equates to 47 per cent of total turnover in the CN100.
