Robertson targets 4% margin

Robertson Group will target a net margin on its construction activity of 4 per cent by 2018 after unveiling a record set of financial results for 2014/15. Group turnover was £298m for the year, with construction hitting a new peak of £217.6m - up 12 per cent on 2013/14. Net margin on construction is currently around 3 per cent, but executive chairman Bill Robertson (pictured) told Construction News he hoped to push that up to 4 per cent, while targeting a 5 per cent group-wide net margin. Pre-tax profit across the group was £11.8m for 2014/15. While this was down on last year's £34.6m profit, the bulk of that figure came from the one-off sale of an investment portfolio. Discussing margins in the wider industry, Mr Robertson said: "We need to stop working at low margins and get some credibility back into the sector."
