Johnson lauds HS2 as civils work begins

Prime minister Boris Johnson has hailed the "transformational potential" of HS2,as the project marked the formal start of its construction phase. The main works civils contractors were given formal notice to proceed on phase one, the London to West Midlands route, in April, after Johnson previously made it subject to the Oakervee Review, which questioned its scope and future. In a statement, Johnson said: "With construction formally under way, it's set to create around 22,000 new jobs.
