HS2 chairman Allan Cook would welcome a review of the £56bn scheme by prime ministerial hopeful Boris Johnson, should he win the Tory leadership race. A report in the Financial Times last week said that Mr Johnson (pictured),the frontrunner in the contest, asked former HS2 chairman Douglas Oakervee to lead an independent review of the project. It was reported that Mr Johnson made the disclosure to a private meeting of Conservative constituency chairs, telling the meeting he had asked Mr Oakervee to "have a look at the business case" and to "think about whether and howwe proceed".
