The production plant in Saint-Dizier, France, was founded in July 1989 as a 50:50 joint venture between Ammann and Yanmar, and the organisation was then known as Ammann-Yanmar. The purpose of the joint-venture was on the one hand to facilitate the introduction of Yanmar products in the European market thanks to the support of a well-established partner with an extensive sales network throughout Europe, and on the other hand to diversify Ammann's offer with high quality earthmoving products to complement its compaction range. The production facility underwent three phases of refurbishment and expansion (1992, 2001 and 2009), but at the end of 2010 the evolution of both the road construction and the earthmoving markets led Ammann and Yanmar to reconsider their collaboration strategy. According to the companies, the two product lines have tended to penetrate the market more and more independently of each other over the last few years, and synergies were considered to be less and less present. As such, Ammann decided to refocus on its core roadbuilding business and Yanmar intensified its efforts in Europe's fast-growing mini excavator market.
