Settled Dispute Makes More Soot

EPA sued the engine makers for using electronic fuel injection to outsmart emissions tests, and their settlement may force some truck buyers to use premium engine oil. Choose carefully when buying engine oil for 1999-model trucks, because since December, engine manufacturers have been setting fuel-injection timing in a way that will stoke the oil with up to twice as much soot as ever before.
