For those seeking proven bakery technology, combined heat and power (CHP) systems can deliver substantial energy savings by generating electricity and then capturing the heat that is typically wasted during the process and using it to power other processes. CHP can even provide cooling energy, through a process known as trigeneration, for sites that require refrigeration systems. Every single year, industrial bakeries in the UK produce around 2.5 million tonnes of baked goods, consuming 200 GWh of energy and emitting 570,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide as a result. It is this consistently high and regular demand for heating and power generation that makes the baking industry an ideal candidate for CHP.
