Dickson Poon China Centre ST Hugh's College, Oxford

The new £16.7m Dickson Poon China Centre is a full turnkey project constructed for St Hugh's College, University of Oxford, by Galliford Try (GT) as main contractor. Designed by David Morley Architects, the client chose a large expanse of exposed concrete to mirror that of the adjacent Maplethorpe Building (built some 12 years previously) and to seamlessly complement the earlier Oxford College structures. Quality of finish was the main driver and the GT team reinforced this vision through every element of design, procurement and subcontractor engagement. Areas of exposed concrete include ceilings with coffers, numerous columns and stair cores, all with a minimum standard class 2, type C finish.
