Russia's Customs Authority has started to implement a new cargo clearance regime that could have far-reaching consequences for the logistics industry.rnIn line with an announcement made earlier in the year, 45 of its clearing offices in the city centre of Moscow were closed on March 1, 2009, and others are set to follow. The next was its office in the Podolskaya region, in the suburbs of Moscow, on July 1.rnThe intention is to transfer their work to the country's borders and ports, where it believes customs inspections and clearance will be handled more efficiently, but more clearance work will be allowed in the city's suburbs in the interim.
