TFR to purchase new locomotives

Transnet, South Africa's state-owned freight transport and ports' group, is to add 100 new locomotives to its rail fleet (Transnet Freight Rail - TFR) over the next two years.rnThe new equipment will be used mainly to support its general freight business (GFB), which includes the movement of maritime containers to/from the ports.rnGeneral Electric South Africa Technologies (GESAT) will supply the new locomotives, with deliveries commencing in 2011 and being finalised in 2012.rnThe new engines will be used to both augment existing equipment and as replacements for what Chris Wells, the acting ceo of Transnet, referred to as an 'ageing fleet'.
