Info-Tech certainly raises a good point that IT departments will be affected by all these "next generation" computing trends and will need to transform its skills base, but it will be interesting to see exactly when and how this plays out. Cloud computing, for instance, is really in a state of gradual transformation that will take many years, because of existing investments on which companies still depend while a new class of software is being adopted. Traditional client-serverbased applications can benefit from more flexible deployments into the infrastructure cloud. However, newer applications, such as Salesforce or Facebook are inherently built to serve multiple users and leverage massively parallel processing power that only make sense in a cloud.
