These results imply that loading of the anatomical structures is different in both limbs, and they bring an insight for the interpretation of horse's preferred lead at landing when these structures are affected. For instance, horses suffering from anatomical structures involved in the load-absorption phase of stance (e.g. suspensory apparatus) should avoid landing with the affected forelimb leading. Conversely, podotrochlear syndrome should induce landing with the affected forelimb leading, as the anatomical structures affected (e.g. distal sesamoid bone, deep digital flexor tendon) are mainly stressed during propulsion, which is predominant in the TF.
