An investigation of SH-wave propagation in an initially stressed anisotropic magnetoelastic layer lying over the initially stressed anisotropic magnetoelastic half-space is considered. An analytical solution is obtained for an anisotropic magnetoelastic medium. A closed-form dispersion relation is obtained posing continuity conditions at the interfaces of layer and half-space and considering upper boundary as free surface. The dispersion relation established shows that the wave depends on the initial stress, magnetoelastic coupling parameter, and the angle of incidence at which the wave crosses the magnetic field. Three different cases are considered. In Case I, both layer and half-space are considered free from initial stress. In Case II, both layer and half-space are taken free from initial stress and magnetoelastic parameter, i.e., just simply anisotropic media. In Case III, both layer and half-space are considered as isotropic media. Numerical computations are performed with the help of Mathematica-7 for a particular model of this problem. The numerical interpretation of parameters like initial stress, magnetoelastic coupling parameter, the angle of incidence at which the wave crosses the magnetic field are presented graphically by plotting the dependence between phase velocity and nondimensional wave number.
