ICC INTERNATIONAL Maritime Bureau (IMB) is asking members to be vigilant after it came across a series of false endorsements of bills of lading (B/Ls) in the summer. One of the cases involved a bank based in Asia which received documents over a period of three months, involving large shipments of iron ore from South America all of which were bound for China. A common thread is that they were all shipments to or from China or India which suggest links to particular trading houses over there; however, to be fair, China and India are big trading countries and the IMB has seen cases involving other countries as well.
