Despite the technology that manufacturers possess to scale down 9mm and .45 ACP semi-autos for pocket-pistol carry, the .380 ACP is still king of the little guns when it comes to CCW use. The .380 ACP (9×17mm) cartridge is more than a century old, developed by John M. Browning at the same time as the Colt Model 1908 Pocket Pistol (a fairly large .380 by today's standards). Today's ultra-compact .380s, essentially any semi-auto smaller than a Walther PPK, have only been around for about 25 years, starting with the original Colt Mustang Pocketlite developed in the late 1980s. Aside from the Colt, all of the rest have been developed in roughly the last 10 years, and Kahr Arms didn't introduce its first .380 until 2010, making it one of the latest pocket models on the market. Although Kahr's pocket-sized P380 was an immediate success, its base price of $649 was almost double that of many competitors and commensurate with higher-end .380 pistols from Colt, Kimber and Sig Sauer. For 2013, Kahr has added a new, lower-priced .380 model with an MSRP of only $419.
