The Availability of Gay and Lesbian Materials in Protestant College Libraries

This work analyzes selected Protestant college libraries' holdings of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) content in order to measure access to materials for readers, determine the nature of the materials, and identify what resources selectors might use to inform purchases. The study identifies twenty titles and ten libraries for a comparison of the holdings. Ten Lambda Award-winning titles deemed affirming of the relationship between religion and homosexuality and ten titles identified as non-GLBT-affirming in nature are used to make these determinations. This article seeks to expand the body of knowledge available on Protestant college libraries while specifically documenting the presence of GLBT materials in such libraries.
