摘要

Whether you have experienced the world of the automobile as an active participant or taken it in vicariously through the accounts of others over the years, the motoring world that you know has likely been shaped to some extent by a trio of people who passed within weeks of each other this spring. Denise McCluggage was widely read for decades as an automotive-magazine columnist and racing journalist, rare enough for a woman. Perhaps rarer still was her career as a sports-car racer who ran in the circles of the sport's greats in the Fifties and Sixties. Starting with an MG, Ms. McCluggage moved up to more exotic machinery and scored a GT-class triumph in a Ferrari at Sebring in 1962. In 1964, she teamed with Anne Hall to claim a class victory in the Monte Carlo Rally in a factory-supported Ford Falcon.
