TEXAS LATEST STATE TO ENACT LAWS ENCOURAGING NGVS

In June, the Texas state legislature enacted sev-eral bills designed to promote the deployment of natural gas vehicles (NGVs) in the state. The new laws amend the existing Texas Emission Reduction Program (TERP), which provides state funds to pay for the retirement of older diesel trucks and replace them with NGVs. They also create a new program to disperse a minimum of $2 million a year to finance NGV fueling infrastructure and provide $8 million toward purchasing new medium and heavy duty natural gas trucks. A key part of Senate Bill (SB) 20 is a new program, called the Texas Clean Transportation Triangle, which pro-vides directed public funding for the development of natural gas fueling stations connecting Houston, San Antonio, Dallas and Fort Worth.
