Article 11 of the Waste Framework Directive will require separate collections of paper, metal, plastic and glass from commercial premises. The presumption is that larger companies will get the recycling services they need, but it is still not known how easy it will be for SMEs, or how quickly the market will respond to demand. Nor is it known if SMEs or their waste providers will need a nudge in the right direction. With this in mind, WRAP is conducting some research to look at how far and how quickly the need for increased recycling services is going to be met naturally in the market and whether there are market failures to slow the process down.
