From Concept To Reality

Those of us who work in the world of waste are aware that the last few years have seen a lot of change in the waste and resource management sector, but it is easy to forget just how profound the change has been. As managing director of a leading waste company and acting chair of the Environmental Services Association, I'd like to think I am well placed to reflect on how far we have come and where we are going. As a keynote speaker at this year's RWM in partnership with CIWM conference, I will be talking about how the waste management industry has become a resource provider as it works to turn the waste hierarchy from an intellectual concept into a reality on the ground. It is easy to forget that only 10 years ago around 80 percent of UK waste went to landfill (with just over 10 percent of municipal waste being recycled); today, the landfill figure is closer to 40 percent and is set to decline further.
