A Focus On Duty Of Care

Defra is currently consulting on a revised Duty of Care Code of Practice. It is over 20 years since Duty of Care for waste was introduced, placing a legal obligation on those who produce and manage waste to ensure their waste is managed responsibly and legally. Defra's stated purpose of the Code is to give simple, clear and practical guidance on what those who import, produce, carry, keep, treat or dispose of controlled waste have to do to fulfil their legal duty of care obligations. The Code also makes revisions to reflect a number of important legislative changes relating to the Duty of Care that have been introduced since its original publication in 1996.
