World's Largest TBM for Hard Rock to See Use in Niagara Tunnel Project

The largest tunnel-boring machine (tbm) ever built for hard rock will help engineers construct a 10.4 km long tunnel that will enable Canada to more efficiently use the share of water from the Niagara River to which it is entitled by the 1950 Niagara Treaty, the agreement that stipulates how much water from the river must flow over Niagara Falls and how much can be used by Canada and the United States for power generation. Manufactured by the Rob-bins Company, of Solon, Ohio, the tbm will have a bore diameter of 14.44 m.
